Stupid man halves his readership

One odd outcome of the Orlando shootings is that Jim Hoft, (the "stupidest man on the internet", as Little Green Footballs like to call him, with good justification) has come out as a gay Republican.   On Breitbart, no less, with several thousands of comments following.   (Can't be bothered fighting my way through them, although I'm sure some must be interesting reading.)

Nutty conservative Catholic CL over at Catallaxy has been linking to Hoft's Gateway Pundit posts for years.  CL's startling contribution to Catallaxy reaction to the shootings was this:
Let us not forget that Islam is 100 percent correct about such things as gay ‘marriage’ and adoption. 100 percent correct. The gay lobby poses a far bigger threat to civilisation than ISIS.

ISIS'threat is way overblown but the gay lobby has succeeded way beyond what people might have thought. I think in this respect he is correct . I think it is the secular people who are destroying western civilization. without their support the gay lobby would not get past first base.

Gee. Can't a conservative just disagree with gay marriage and gay use of reproductive technology and not think they are "destroying Western civilisation"?

god, I didn't realise CL was so far gone.

that depends on what you think Western civilisation is and where it id heading to.

You quote has him saying this on gay marriage and adoption.

What is occurring is the complete changing of what a parent is. That is changing civilisation and destroying it is pretty accurate.

you were far gone long ago, Homes.

and the family model went to shit long before the 'gay lobby' arrived on the scene

I agree Soony but the gay lobby simply exacerbated this.

Jason, you obviously haven't been following the Lad's descent lately. He has gone so far out on the fringe as to be indistinguishable from a villain in a Dan Brown novel. And yes, he's as badly written as that.

Hi monty. While it's somewhat entertaining to read your comments over there, and the inevitable Muntz-ian response from a bunch of aging, angry white men (and the dumb-as women who stand by their man's casual misogyny and racism, so to speak), it's a bit hard to see why you bother. They're not playing with the full deck; as mad as cut snakes; the ultimate examples of Kruger-Dunning; people you would edge away from if you overheard them in the pub: whichever analogy you think best. It's neat, though, that apparently anyone is now allowed to call Sinclair a moron/idiot - the regulars seem to do so without fear, since if he banned all commenters who think he's a fool since he supported Turnbull taking the leadership, the comment pool would reduce to about 6.

When Sinclair had a bout of indignation over Finkelstein getting a gong yesterday, I was tempted to comment that he shouldn't worry, he'd be first in line when they start giving out awards for services to Big Tobacco, lung cancer, and billionaire miners. But I refuse to raise the tone of the place by my presence.

Feel free to use that line yourself, though. :)

Steve, I maintain there's still value in someone presenting a voice of sanity. They would otherwise not hear any truth inside their bubble. The key thing to remember about sites like this - and pretty much any site, really - is that the ratio of posters to lurkers is very high, so while the relatively small amount of posters might never change their minds, maybe the silent majority of lurkers will go away with questions in their minds about the lies fed to them by the wingnut wurlitzer.

The recent increase in white supremacism and outright fascism is worrying, nonetheless. That's something only Sinc can deal with, since the locals seem to accept it now as just part of the political space they occupy - unlike the last incursion only a couple of months ago. That's the Trump effect.
