Really, TJW? Maybe the main reason I oppose mandatory celibacy is because of the effect on the number of Western men prepared to be priests. A secondary benefit is the almost certain reduction in the number of priests likely to abuse kids.

Celibacy should be a settled issue.

It has no basis in tradition nor scripture. It is not applied across all Catholic Priests. It confuses pastoral charisms with those to celibacy. It leaves certain Priests with a stunted sexuality prone to seek satisfaction with the vunerable. It only worked when it was not taken seriously.
